Dosimetry Check Dose Algorithm

Dosimetry Check uses a pencil beam algorithm. See the manual for details. Some people initially think checking the plan with a different algorithm will pose a problem. But this has not been the case. Persons using Dosimetry Check with Phillips (Adac) Pinnacle, Varian Eclipse, Nomos Corvus, and Precise Plan are getting good results. In Step 2 above we show a comparison with the Pinnacle system with 3D superposition and Dosimetry Check. Using an independent system to check plans adds redundancy and by doing so increases quality assurance. We would expect algorithmic differences to be less than 3 percent in most cases, and in any event, is something understood. The primary purpose here is not to QA your planning system, it is to QA individual patient treatments.
