You can patent a process and the process of accomplishing quality control by measuring the treatment fields prior to impinging upon the patient and computing a dose distribution from those measurements has been patented Feb. 8, 2005, US Patent 6,853,702, by us.

A patent for transit dosimetry with exit images was granted Jan 8, 2013, US Patent number 8,351,572, with an update Dec 10, 2013, 8,605,857.
